Many members work behind the scenes or take work home - one of the reasons it seems we get a lot done. In the case of lettering equipment, my department gets involved in a lot of that.
In this cas here is the artwork for decorating the side of one of our electric locomotives, Commonwealth Edison 4. The remnants of the existing lettering were traced by Frank Hicks, and I straigtened, squared, and redrew the work. Dick Lukin has been diligent in cleaning and repainting the body, so he nags me on.
Here the next step will be to hand cut out these characters and then it will be used as a transfer stencil on the locomotive. Note the elements are all there and will be re-arranged on the actual side of the cab.
Here is a photo of the locomotive with one side about ready for the lettering, and in fact the numeral 4 has been painted. Henry Vincent and Gerry Detloff also work on this from time to time in an ongoing effort to upgrade the equipment.
Here several of the regular woodshop workers have strayed to the Barn 4 area and are re-starting some serious work to complete repainting on TM (Milwaukee) 972 city streetcar. Left to right are John Faulhaber, Frank Sirinek, and Pete Galayda.

I was not around at the time. General discussion suggests that it was "pretty marginal" in a number of areas. Nigel
