As you might have noticed, I haven't done an Electric Car Department
Update in a while. There were a few reasons for that, the biggest was
the two weekends that had the visit of Thomas, the Tank Engine. There
was work done in the shops on the various cars. The TM L10 engine has
working air in it now. The Michigan car has had several updates that
are under the Freight Car department blogs. Work also progressed on the
Milwaukee 972 street car.
Repair
work was done on CTA 3142's trolley pole and wheel assembly. The pole
will now track around the carline now, and not de-wire as much. Some
repair work was done on the trolley shoe of CA&E 308, as well as
other minor repairs. In addition to all of that, there was some
inspections and test runs of equipment that will be running for
Showcase Weekend, this upcoming weekend. I certainly invite all of you
to come out over the weekend, and see historic equipment running. We
should be back to normal reporting after this weekend.
Respectfully Submitted, Joel Ahrendt

I thought I would just HAVE to add some general shots of news and views taken around the property. If I am carrying around the camera, worth a picture or post of what is going on. August 23, 2008 I snuck in time for a pic at lunch today during the Thomas Event. And I found Eric Lorenz working on the Cleveland PCC (CTS 4223) in Barn 4. Here he is fabricating and installing new side bumper rails. August 27, 2008 A contract worker is shown sanding and doing some bodywork on Cleveland's PCC CTS 4223, inside Barn 4. September 7, 2008 Illinois Terminal combine 277 has just emerged from the carbarn, operating under its own power for the first time in 18 years!

Pete Galayda has begun painting the cream color for the window band on the side of the TM 972. James Faulhaber is getting the surfaces sanded and ready for paint on the car end in this photo.

Here is a picture from Kirk Warner of Jeff Brady working on a corner block to complete the new tack molding. This more of a task involving art and sculpture in a wood medium.

Another new ENTRY page for this pic caught by Kirk Warner. Here we see evidence of continuing work on the TM L 10 locomotive. After pressure testing the tank, it has been wrestled back into place under the west hood by Scott Greig and Joe Stupar with encouragement from onlookers Stan Wdowikowski and Dan Fenlaciki

I was not around at the time. General discussion suggests that it was "pretty marginal" in a number of areas. Nigel

Ah yes, I have made such Jibs myself. If it were me, I would add in each corner an angled piece from the base to the Jib to act as sway bracing. [...]
