Wednesday, July 8. 2009GATX 33519 Update July 5, 2009 Lifting The Holiday weekend saw the stars in alignment and a crew was assembled to place the new wine car on its rightful trucks, and to re-install the missing coupler.  Tricky Business Tricky business to balance things and hold the car in the air safely, rolling out the old shop trucks.  Done Done and back on the rails. We are still looking for a few parts for the coupler and brake rods, but this is much better already! P.S. we are still looking for donations to help pay off the acquisition expenses. Sunday, July 5. 2009Trolley Bus Dept - July 4th WeekendOn Thursday, Jerry replaced the faulty trolley bases on the roof of the Seattle 633. We then took it out for a few trial runs and the poles, bases and boards worked flawlessly. He also worked on the low voltage issues, clearing several of them up. The coach also received some additional inspection, greasing and more cleaning inside – it needs more still as it was DIRTY!  Newly washed Seattle Twin 633 turning eastbound onto Central Avenue. Friday saw the exterior of the 633 get a bath. What a difference! It will look even better next week as Howard Geier is scheduled to come out and buff the entire coach. After washing, we had an impromptu “Seattle Day” as both the 633 and 4020 operated. It was neat to see them both operating together.  Seattle Twin 633 leads Seattle MAN 4020 westbound on Central Avenue at Depot Street. On Saturday, Bob Bourne visited from Iowa and operated Chicago Marmon 9553. Since the railroad was closed for several hours for the trolley pageant, we became the only service. Many trips during this time we operated virtually full loads. Unfortunately Mother Nature didn’t cooperate, but it couldn’t dampen the spirits of everyone involved. It was a GREAT show!!!! WAY TO GO GUYS!!!!!! Friday, July 3. 2009Thursday, July 2. 2009Milwaukee Streetcar 972 Update July1, 2009 Do You do Windows? Time for an update on progress on this popular car. Here Pete Galayda continues the painting of the south side. It is almost complete, west doors restored and re-hung. About time to think about re-applying the lettering, and move on to one of the ends of the car. As an anecdote, yesterday we had a weekday visitor wander into the area after he saw West Allis in one of the sign boxes. Turns out he lives in West Allis and was very excited and amazed at the car. He was still there and taking pics almost an hour later when I passed through! Wednesday, July 1. 2009URTX 26640 Update June 28, 2009 Priming John Baletto continues his valiant efforts helping the Freight Department on this car restoration. Here he is painting one of the truck sideframes after a substantial amount of work cleaning off years of 'dreck' and needlechipping old paint and corruption.  The Last Quadrant The work continues - now on the east half of the south side. This is the last quadrant of the car to be re-sided, so hurry out if want pictures of how freight cars weather, or even a sample of the old siding to take home as a souveneir! Other recent work includes trying to reconstruct three blocks of lettering on the car ends, and there really was little to go on. But we think we have enough to re-draw the data and use it for when those ends are repainted. |

Ah yes, I have made such Jibs myself. If it were me, I would add in each corner an angled piece from the base to the Jib to act as sway bracing. [...]
