The sanding to prepare for new paint is done and Kirk Warner is masking off adjacent areas, that do not need the paint.
Another benefit of the Thomas Event is that passenger cars are pulled out of Barn 3 and if other work can be tightly scheduled, such as the tank car painting, we can house it indoors for masking and prep work.
The first step is to thoroughly wipe down the sanded areas to assure they are clean before painting.
More tarps and plastic sheets are taped down to protect the other areas of the car.
And now following, are several pictures of the new black paint being applied.
Some paint was needed on the right side, here seen after spraying.
But most of the work was done on the left side and A end. In mid job it was decided to wye the car to provide a shady side - here it is turned and painted. It developed into a very long day with a lot of help from several folks including the crew who ran Joy 2 to pull the car from Barn 3 early in the AM and who returned it inside an hour or so before the rain started. Thanks to all!!
More wood parts are primed and steel parts are almost ready to re-install on the car, including ladder and door stops.
The plug door on the left side has now been completely needle chipped. Look closely and you will see remnants of the original orange paint and some lettering! Wow.
At the B end corner, the ladder brackets are going back on and the steel end was needlechipped for priming and paint.

Wayne Bates is making good progress on restoring stove parts for this caboose.
What a change! Painted walls and now the floor area is being primed and painted. It will not be long now.

I was not around at the time. General discussion suggests that it was "pretty marginal" in a number of areas. Nigel
