Tim Peters spent a rare Sunday in the woodshop working on the new windows for CRT 1268. The first four upper sash were bing tweaked and fit, and should be ready for gluing this week.
I worked on making a new mahogany window for the Sand Springs 68. On the left is one of the original sash - well, original in that it was made in Oklahoma on the SSRy; and on the right are the kit parts for the new window. When the 68 was operating in service in September one of the visitors decided to open this window against our advice, and succeeded in tearing it apart.
With help from volunteer Ray Pollice, we also made almost 100 feet of 5/16 inch radius mahogany quarter round for use by the coach department. This is a size and type of wood trim not commercially avaiable so we make our own!
Jeff Brady was on hand to begin to replicate some of the roof supports (carlines) on the end of the 28. These are complex in shape, mounting, and function, and if you look closely there is not a lot of them left, especially on the ends.
Today saw the last of our coach deliveries for a while. The LA Brill 8002, the only remaining LA trolley coach, arrived from Orange Empire Railway Museum. This is the coach that we are restoring as our part of the trade with OERM that will see 4 coaches added to our collection.
It took about 2 hours to get it completely unloaded and to get our ever reliable trucker Mel back on his way. The hard part was getting it into the Hoffman Garage. After much pulling, pushing, and rearranging of material in the garage, it was around 6:00pm by the time we finally were able to get the coach positioned to where it is going to live during the restoration. A HUGE thanks to Richard Schauer who spent his entire Sunday helping out, directing the operation from start to finish.

There was not a lot of activity since much of the crew was on a field trip to East Troy to try to rescue parts form two more cars that they are scrapping.
But we saw Buzz Morissette making a new set of footboards for the L 4, and later helping with the workshop Barn 4 addition; Tim Peters continuing flashing the roof on the CRT 1268, DIck Lukin painting two threshold castings for a CTA 4000, and two volunteers making sawdust.
Rich Witt is trying his hand running stock through the table saw with assistance by Dick Lukin. A total of twenty new rails and stiles sits on the jointer table to the right of Dick, these destined for B&M 1094 in the Coach Department.

Here is a pic taken by Kirk Warner last Wednesday of the completed lettering on the A End. Just like an exclamation point at the end of a sentence, finishing the last of the work on this car before winter grips us in its icy fingers - well you get the idea. A goal set and met.

We had some help on Wednesday despite it being the day before a holiday so parts were being processed to manufacture five new windows for the coach department to be used in B&M 1094. Left to right, John Faulhaber, Bob Kutella, and Victor Humphreys.

How did he do that? We arrived last Wednesday and the last of the hand painted lettering was done!
Pete Galayda must been sneaking out to work on the car when no one was looking. But the car body is now nearly done and looking better than it has for the last FIFTY YEARS. Good work Pete, and the hard working crew of helpers.
