Sunday, November 29. 2009The LA Brill Trolley Coach Arrives - 11/29/2009Today saw the last of our coach deliveries for a while. The LA Brill 8002, the only remaining LA trolley coach, arrived from Orange Empire Railway Museum. This is the coach that we are restoring as our part of the trade with OERM that will see 4 coaches added to our collection.  Between the Dodge locomotive and the forklift, the coach was unloaded without incident It took about 2 hours to get it completely unloaded and to get our ever reliable trucker Mel back on his way. The hard part was getting it into the Hoffman Garage. After much pulling, pushing, and rearranging of material in the garage, it was around 6:00pm by the time we finally were able to get the coach positioned to where it is going to live during the restoration. A HUGE thanks to Richard Schauer who spent his entire Sunday helping out, directing the operation from start to finish.  Ready to go into the Hoffman Garage where the restoration work will begin shortly Sunday, November 29. 2009Wood Shop Update - November 28, 2009There was not a lot of activity since much of the crew was on a field trip to East Troy to try to rescue parts form two more cars that they are scrapping. But we saw Buzz Morissette making a new set of footboards for the L 4, and later helping with the workshop Barn 4 addition; Tim Peters continuing flashing the roof on the CRT 1268, DIck Lukin painting two threshold castings for a CTA 4000, and two volunteers making sawdust.  Rabbeting the Rail Rich Witt is trying his hand running stock through the table saw with assistance by Dick Lukin. A total of twenty new rails and stiles sits on the jointer table to the right of Dick, these destined for B&M 1094 in the Coach Department. Sunday, November 29. 2009UTLX 17222 Update - November 25, 2009 A End Here is a pic taken by Kirk Warner last Wednesday of the completed lettering on the A End. Just like an exclamation point at the end of a sentence, finishing the last of the work on this car before winter grips us in its icy fingers - well you get the idea. A goal set and met. We had some help on Wednesday despite it being the day before a holiday so parts were being processed to manufacture five new windows for the coach department to be used in B&M 1094. Left to right, John Faulhaber, Bob Kutella, and Victor Humphreys. Sunday, November 29. 2009Milwaukee Streetcar 972 Update, November 25, 2009How did he do that? We arrived last Wednesday and the last of the hand painted lettering was done!  This Way, Folks Pete Galayda must been sneaking out to work on the car when no one was looking. But the car body is now nearly done and looking better than it has for the last FIFTY YEARS. Good work Pete, and the hard working crew of helpers. |
