Monday, January 25. 2010Occupancy Approved for Barn 11Inspections for Barn 11 are done and occupancy is approved. We'll begin coordinating all the equipment moves and start stuffing the barn over the coming days, weeks and months. Equipment preservation and protection from the elements has been one of IRM's priorities. The completion of Barn 11 adds about 1,950 feet of indoor storage to make a total of 12,230 feet of indoor storage across all nine equipment barns at IRM. Thank you to everyone that donated both money and sweat to get this project completed. Monday, January 25. 2010Michigan Electric 28 Update - January 24, 2010 Moving Pictures Yes, moving pictures have been around for about a century. Our version shows Jeff Brady working to finish another mortise and tenon joint for the new baggage doors. It is hard to get Jeff to sit still and pose for a photo.  It Fits The rail fits just fine. Maybe a little tight. Now, "How do I get it back out of there?"  Back in the Saddle Ray Schmid is back in the saddle - or - back working on the new roof saddles. He is sanding the surfaces on our machine and you may spot a few more resting on the band saw table behind him.  The Door I will take "Door Number Two"! Ray and Jeff are assembling door number two for its first dry fit. It is a big door and heavy, although the camera angle has tended to foreshorten it here. Monday, January 25. 2010Wood Shop Update - January 24, 2010There were a few souls working in the wood shop yesterday and I will post the work on the Michigan 28 as a separate entry.  Cab Windows Here are two of the cab windows for the N&W 2050 in the glue press. Windows five and six on the project. Two remaining before we start the sanding and finish work. These windows are divided into four lights or panes, have a lot of fussy work and are much more time consuming. |
