Last logo added

Just a quick update on the L7, Buzz applied the logo on the right side on Saturday, and the loco number was added late evening.  A few photos have been added to the L7 photo gallery.

Over the past 7 weeks, the L7 has seen a lot of activity.  The missing sections of the T&G cab floor has been cut and reinstalled by Joel.  Stan has been cleaning the interior walls and ceiling and half of it is primed and painted.  Charlie and a number of other people have sanded, wire wheeled, primed and painted all of the remaining sides, hoods, and decks.  Half of the handrails have been painted white and Buzz applied the new logo on one side, with the other side to be applied soon.  A number of new photos can be viewed in the L7 photo gallery.

A good amount of progress was made today on the L7. On Saturday, Joel sampled some T&G wood for the cab floor in order to replace the sections that are missing. Today, Joe and Joel spent some time testing the resistor grids, they identified at least one short that will need to be repaired.

Charlie, Warren, Kyle, and Jamie spent some time making a lot more progress on painting. This started with Charlie grinding some holes on the deck and then Jamie welded them closed, and Charlie grinding the welded spots smooth and then priming. Charlie and Warren did a bit of work sanding the hood and deck.  Everyone pitched in on masking areas not to be painted, and then wiped everything down with lacquer thinner. Jamie then sprayed the first coat of green on the hood and deck. The fun part was keeping Alco from walking across the wet paint.

The side and end of the cab received a second coat of paint on Thursday night.  After some touch up around some hinges and a 3rd coat in these areas, work will move on to the hoods and decks. Additional photos can be found in the L7 gallery.

Work continues on the L7.  This weekend Charlie, Stan, Kyle, and others continued doing some prep work on the hoods at each end, as well as prepping and priming some interior walls.  Charlie, Kyle and Warren scuffed and wiped down one side and shortly thereafter Jamie sprayed the first coat of green onto these areas.  Additional pictures can be found in this gallery.

Joe and Joel began looking into the electrical system to try to identify why the first point of power is so hot (quick start and fast). So far the problem is pointing towards some resistance grids. They plan to continue troubleshooting next weekend.
