New York Central - DOVER STRAIT

The nearly completed exterior of the DOVER STRAIT was on display Sunday as the car was pulled out of Barn 3 early in the morning and left out for photos and to sun itself.  A real treat for the members and fans.

Vestibule End

The car has been wyed (turned) again, and Bob Hunter has added the end grills to the flat panels of the vestibule.  Here he is touching up the paint on the fasteners.

Lettering End Doors

Almost finished with the lettering project!  Bob Kutella applies the car name to one of the end doors.

Diaphragms are Good!

Bob Hunter continues to 'manufacture' and install the second diaphragm for the car.  This will be the only passenger car in our collection, at this time, with complete and operating diaphragms.

And at the end of another long day, much of the lettering on the second side is completed!

At Beginning of Today

The work continues on the Dover Strait lettering.  Barely had the other side been completed than the car was pulled from the barn and turned on the wye, about 3 hours after the last paint was applied last Sunday.  So we start on the second side with a large crew.  Here you see masking of the two stripes in progress and in the distance, James Faulhaber is sanding out the area for the stripe.
