So how's The Progress On UP 2-8-0 #428 Going? Ive been excited to learn about the progress of the engines in the Steam Department are going since Im what you call it a hardcore Steam Railfan and Ive been in the Steam Shop on a privite tour back in 2006 during the Museum Showcase Weekend. Plus Which engine is the closest to being finished. Last why has'nt the Steam Department hav'nt upgraded there webpage like the Diesel and Electric Departments have done? Im impressed by your awsome work on #428. Cant wait to see her runing again at IRM because its now my Favorite Steam Locomotive at IRM.

Matt, for an 'unofficial' recap on the general progress of three locomotives, see my comment posted 9-01-09. Your other question about blog updates, the steam department has an unofficail independent blog which link may be found in postings on the Yahoo Group IRMlist forum. Bob Kutella

Perhaps the steam department could be persuaded to publish their department updates via the official IRM website rather than elsewhere? Or are they planning to secede from the "Union"? Also, it would be nice to see the equipment rosters updated on a more timely basis... and IC201 is still not shown on the steam roster!

Thanks Robert. I was wondering why their page wasn't updated. Thanks for the info.

Robert, I agree with you. I have been checking the steam department for updates, and news about when we will see steam back in revenue operation. Have seen hardly a peep like you have stated.

You guys are doing a great job on all your work! Will be out Labor Day weekend. Is the 1630 operational yet? Hope so. Just checked the page today. Glad to see the 428 is almost ready. Keep up the good work.

I am not sure what you are replying to here. For the 1630 all the wheels are back under her now and the next steps include an IRM hydro test which will be soon. Most of those in the department are focusing on this locomotive now, so other work may slow a bit Bob Kutella

Just a quick question from a lifelong steam buff. Based on the great progress recently made on Frisco 1630, will she run next year? Thanks! P.S. For those of you who would like to follow the progress in the steam shop, check out this website: www.irmsteamteam.com.

I am not a member of the Steam Department but can assure you that getting a fire in the 1630 has the highest priority. With approvals in place and all issues addressed, that will happen. We have discussed this before but at that point careful work will ensue to check out all the operating parts, and to do "break in" runs, monitoring key mechanical items. Bob Kutella

I look forwards to the return of a working STEAM LOCOMOTIVE@ IRM! The work on 428, as well as 1630 took quite a good deal of time, but IT HAD TO BE DONE & DONE CORRECTLY! Here's hoping both STEAM LOCOMOTIVES will run in 2011. This, for me, is especially true of the 428 as it will be a new and strong drawing power for IRM.

Can't wait to see steam engines in 2011 ! Do we know what dates to expect yet? Thanks, Dennis

Kudos to the crew that's restoring the locomotives and equipment at your facility. I'm always happy to see another steam locomotive brought back to working order. You're doing very important work in saving the history of this country and providing a new perspective for many who might not have ever seen a steam locomotive in action. My hat is off to you all.....Thank you.
