Are the 69.95 and 41.7 acre parcels owned by IRM?

No, those parcels are owned by Zierer.

Does the museum still own any right of way to the east of the end of the mainline which would allow the railroad to be extended eastward at some future date? Does the museum own any land west of Olson road other than the current right of way? Keep up the good work.

yes, there is a 56 acre parcel from olsen road west to about the east schmidt switch, and the ROW south to about museum drive.

i forgot to answer the first part of that, IRM owns another 3000+ or so feet of ROW east of the river where the railroad ends now.

A few years ago I heard of a plan to bridge the river in cooperation with the county. Have either IRM or the county applied for stimulus funding for this, or is it still dormant?

Congrats to the IRM. I am from close by South Bend, Indiana and follow the museums workings closely (well as much as I can through internet). Everyone at the museum should be proud of the work that they do and the personal sacrafice they make to save railroad history. Best

With this new parcel, can the IRM connect from yards 10-15 to the mail line?
#2 Kirk Warner on 2009-11-21 15:32
not until some of the Zierer parcels can be acquired, and some bridges built.

The acquisition of this buffer land is awesome great news!!!!

Does this purchase include the land accessed by Karsten's crossing? And do we have any ideas yet as to how we will use this new acreage?
#4 Scott Greig on 2009-11-22 09:53
No, karstens is the zierer parcels. For now, the new acreage will be leased to the farmers the same as our other unused land.
