Looks like the nose door is still in place. While I understand from the IRM list 9908 is being restored 'quickly' in BN green/white to be redone later as CB&Q silver will the nose door be put "back" at this time or plated over again for now?
The nose door always was in place and functional. The only difference on the door from 9908 to 9976 will be the restoration of the headlight in the door.
So she is going to be repainted as a CB&Q E-unit? Too bad. She was best known for being part of the last largest fleet of E-units in her BN color scheme, and I loved watching her and her sisters pulling METRA trains when I was a kid. Any chance you guy will change your minds and keep her as a Burlington Northern E-unit?
For the short term (at least several years) 9908 will remain as it is. This unit is best suited for being restored to CB&Q 9976, when the time comes. And in reality, the BN3 is best suited going back to BN 9919 and leave the BN1 and BN2 to represent the executive scheme.
Thanks for letting me know. I really enjoyed those old green e-units as a kid, and seeing 9908 brought back some happy memories for me. I never thought I would see one again. Anyway thank you for your reply.
Owen yes with your abundant donations of both time and money Im happy to say that 9908 has been almost completely restored! We only need about 25,000 more to finish the project and get her ready for the public ceremony so please don't hesitate to send a heavy check to IRM and note 9908 fund. Thanks!
I was just going to say that there are other priorities in my shop at the moment. Donations to any project will always help it along further, 9976 included. Orville, when you say "we", I'm not sure I've seen you out there before, maybe we just haven't crossed paths yet?
