After 1630 returns to service, there are still two steam locomotives in the shop: UP428 and J. Neils Lumber #5, the Shay. Which of the two is closer to completion? What are the major hurdles for each?
The real answer to this question will appear trite - whichever one it is agreed becomes the primary focus for resources once 1630 is running. I am very happy that I am not the foreman faced with this decision as it is sure to be second guessed !.
#5 requires primarily boiler work while #428 requires substantial mechanical / machining work. Obviously another factor in the decision is that #5 could never work the main line while #428 can.

This is a great argument for J. Niels Lumber #5. The Shay certainly is a wonderful piece of machinery. But in my opinion it will never have the feeling of "steam power" that the 1630 (or perhaps the #5) has. On the other hand, I would guess that the Shay consumes less fuel?
Dear friends, I am seeing a photo of part of a shaper planers pump and was wondering if I could help sending me more information and pictures of the installation of lines hudraulicas to drive the piston products.
Since I have a machine table brush rockfor 9447 hydraulic model and we can not make it work the hydraulic unit.
