Hello John The bar will not come out until the museum decides to invest more $ into the repair and removal. We have to sandblast 6 seat frames and reupholster 20-25 seat cushions and backs. Maybe next year. You can help the cause by donating to the 2612 fund. Thanks for your interest Roger
I started volunteering last year when I was 17 and I was pretty much in the same position as you are in currently. If you are under 18, you have to have a parent/guardian present at the museum while you are volunteering. In regards to operation of equipment, I was told I had to be 18. Hope this helps!
Hello Art Thanks for your kind words. We are not done with the restoration but as the next blog entry will show the car is useable and sure looks better than when we received it in Feb of this year. Roger
Hello Jacob. You do have reach the age of 18 to operate our equipment in train service for the public. At that time, or perhaps earlier, you are eligible to study the operating rules and take the required tests. We do have restoration tasks which have been done by younger folks, and a host of other volunteer chores which may make sense for you to experience IRM. For under 18, you would need a parent or other adult so designated to act as your guardian in case a decision must be made. Those are insurance and liability issues, but I would welcome you to our volunteers if you are able to help.
