Milwaukee 197 is a GP-40-2 built in 1966, renumbered SOO 2023 with the MILW buy out in Feb of 1985. Sold to Florida East coast and numbered 440 Last on-line pix I could find from 2011 http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2987608 Looks like she is still making money for FEC.

For the historical record: The original Milwaukee Road #197 was a straight GP-40.

Milwaukee road 197 Did a little more digging and located two Milwaukee diesels with the number 197 found a nice picture of a SD-40 that is more probably the source of your number board. The SD40-2 is here. www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=358132&nseq=3 The number board looks like a dead ringer for whats in the shop. This roster shows Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern 6361 as ex MILW 197 serial number 73687-16. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locolist.aspx?id=DME The CP roster at this site showing acquired DME SD40-2 as follows thedieselshop.us/CP.HTML DME 6359-6362 73687-12, 15 to 17 5/73 SD40-2; See Note C So, yes that locomotive also still working, may be even through Genoa IL.

Yes, just as I stated in my original post. It was obvious this was from the SD40-2 197 since the label in the lower right hand corner stated it was from SOO 6361, later to become DME 6361. The unit has been razor blades probably 4 times over seeing as it's been gone since 2000.

Hello, Just wondering what remains to be done before the CNW 1518 can run again. It is truly a gem of a first generation diesel-not to mention that it is also historic-and I'd like to see it run someday.
