You guys have done a fantastic job. I think you all deserve a break so you can step back and admire your work, because this car looks great. Now I do have a question for the coach department. I think I might know the answer, but I'll ask anyways. Would it be possible for the coach department to cosmetically restore a diesel locomotive? I know there a probably some reasons why. But I don't see why you couldn't. You guys did a fantastic job with 3345, I'd love to see what you could do with a diesel locomotive. (I did see Metra 308 in the background in one of the shots of 3345, so maybe you have beat me to the punch?)
If you want some more sensible suggestions, I would suggest either finishing the interior work on Dover Strait. Also, for the record, if I could help with the museum coach department, I would. I would love to be part of this department, but sadly I live in Galesburg, which is 3 hours from IRM.
Matt, the Diesel Department is quite capable of doing its own cosmetic restorations. They are currently repainting CRIP 4506 in Bankrupt Blue.
There are many long distance volunteers, including one from Galesburg and another from Peoria. (Of course, we can't ask you to make that kind of effort if it doesn't fit within your means and other commitments.)
Mike Dee: considering the possibility that the car has had several owners (railroad or private) before it came to IRM, it is probable that returning the car to its original IC 3345 appearance could be considered a "re-creation".
Mike,
I believe the C,RI&P sold the Diesel locomotive to the C&NW; so it came to the IRM in their colors.
I would have said the are restoring the Rock Island color scheme.
