Will the museum remain open after 5;00 on Saturday to be able to enter for nighttime or must you be there earlier. It is a Jewish Holiday that ends at sundown
Unless things have changed since last year, it is not a requirement that one attend during the day to be able to go at night. My mother and I are going to go to the Saturday night gig and then back for the grand finale on Sunday.

I understand that Frisco 1630 will be hydro-tested for the FRA inspector today.
According to this website, www.irmsteamteam.com, if the inspector finds nothing wrong, he could approve it for operation. If this is the case, is it possible that we will finally see 1630 return to service for Member's Weekend? I am a big steam buff and rode on Nickel Plate 765 at the train festival in Owosso Michigan last July.
Based on the blog information I would say that the steam trains will not be running this year.

Folks,
I have not seen anything about the michigan Electric 28 in a while? Can you post a picture or word about what work they have been doing this summer?

I've just read this whole page and noticed that any questions about STEAM have been totally ignored. This place started as a trolly museum and I guess it pretty much still is.
Also all these messages are dated 2010.
You might want to check out the excellent blog that's maintained to update the status of 1630 and 428. The FRA, in the interests of safety, have mandated strict requirements for live steam apparatus. The 1630 and 428 are being restored to meet these requirements. This is being done almost exclusively with volunteer labor. I'm certain that IRM would welcome your donation of either your time, or money to speed the process along.
Steam is not ignored... you are looking in the wrong place. Check the IRM Steam Department blog. Nigel Bennett of the Steam Team has been updating progress in the steam shop weekly, and it is a very interesting read.
Bob, they will be performing throughout the day, there are no specific times. Occasionally they will perform at the Central Pavilion, other times on one of the streetcars.
For the night operations, will there be "staged"or "posed" scenes for photography, or is it more a matter of just getting around doing your own lighting etc? Will patrons be allowed to bring lighting equipment etc on to the grounds?
Thank you.
Paul, there won't be much in the way of staging and posed scenes, we'll be operating the trains most of the night for rides. However, there might be times where certain trains end up in certain places that might make a good photo. You are welcome to bring your own lighting equipment, you may get some time for photos before we start night operations at 8pm.
Will the bi-levels be running?
Why isn't 9911 pulling the silver/zephyr train? I was hoping to see the two, and I am unable to go to the often museum because of where I live.
Want to thank all the IRM People who WORKED their tails off this weekend and some who slept there to make this weekend happen!!!!!!
Thank you very much
Got some great pictures and video
thanks again

I noticed there is a two coach Lackwana set listed on all three sessions but with no locomtive listed to pull it. Was the set supposed to be removed when they rewrote the list for this year but was not? Is the Leviathan returning for a second run this year? Is another locomotive supposed to pull the set but the locomotive was not listed?
Please answer my questions. Thanks.
Andrew, We haven't completed the list yet. We're talking about having a long heavyweight train this year and having it lit for the night trips as well. More to come over the next few weeks.
I have been wondering about a specific piece of equipment, UP 1366. It is a FM H-20-44 listed in the equipment roster, but I have not seen it in the grounds in the past. Any information in the unit would be appreciated.
I believe that UP 1366 is currently stored in yard 13. I remember seeing it in front of Barn 10 a year or two ago. It is not in UP Armour Yellow paint so I had to run through the equipment roster to find a picture to identify this 'mystery switcher'. Jamie K. of the Diesel Department could tell you if it is anywhere close to operational.
It's currently sitting in Yard 10, which is behind Barn 9. Currently, it is a light green color and numbered 409. I am personally interested in this unit, myself. Mainly, it needs oil cooler work and some electrical repairs.
Please add that we plan on a working demonstration of the plow wings on our CGW X 38 snow plow, acquired earlier this year in 2012. Tentatively scheduled for 1:30 PM on 9/15. You have not seen this piece in earlier years.

Barn 11 is setup as a display barn, however, access to the barn is not great until construction of an access road is completed. That is planned, but a little ways off yet.
