Thursday, September 15. 2011B&O Wagon Top Update - September 14, 2011 A End Despite unsettled skies, it did not rain after 10 AM or so and Victor Humphreys is sanding primed areas on the A end. At the same time Mike Alterio fabricated the two remaining grab irons for the B end and installed them.  Priming Done Here is an overall view of the north side and A end of the car. The A end and four side panels have had welding and repairs completed, been primed, sanded, and re-primed. It is quite a visual difference in person, so look closely at the pic to compare the left side, largely 'painted' in rust, with the right half of the completed work.  Roof Meanwhile the roof needs some attention. We have been diligently working to have it sandblasted and prime painted by a contractor due to the gratings and other details that make it impractical to do by hand. So far, since the beginning of August we have hired two different guys to make this happen, and both have been unable to do the job. It is not that complicated. So, if any of you have a cousin or uncle that is a legitimate sandblaster, please have them contact me so this can be completed before winter. (Temperature early this AM about 40 F). Thanks Thursday, September 15. 2011CTS 4223 Update - September 14, 2011We had a skeleton crew today but that did not stop Lorne Tweed from continuing to make progress on the project.  Standee Windows Lorne is painting the interior of the sides in the standee window areas. I think all of the remaining ones are now painted and ready to have the rubber gasket and glass installed. That will make a big impact on the appearance of the car from the outside. Tuesday, September 13. 2011Leviathan and Nebraska Zephyr to operate for Museum Showcase Weekend
Leviathan #63, an American 4-4-0 steam locomotive, will operate two more days at the Illinois Railway Museum this weekend, Museum Showcase Weekend - September 17th and 18th, pulling coaches and delighting many. This may be the last opportunity this year to ride behind Leviathan, with both day and night trips, and experience the sights and sounds of a live steam locomotive.
 Crowds of people gather around Leviathan 63, an American 4-4-0. Museum Showcase Weekend celebrates the Museum collection and honors the members who make it work! Daytime operations begin at 10:00AM on Saturday and Sunday and end about 5:30PM. Trains leave the main station approximately every 15 minutes or as required. Night operations begin at 8:00PM on Saturday, September 17th. The Nebraska Zephyr will operate both Saturday and Sunday, September 17th and 18th, along with many other pieces of historic railway equipment, including Caboose trains, Interurbans, Steetcars and more. Your admission ticket entitles you to an unlimited number of train rides, as well as our several barns with over two miles of indoor track, and our collection of over 400 pieces of railroad rolling stock.
