Radial Arm Saw Work

Randal Hicks is shown making big pieces into little pieces in his quest to restore the roof on Illinois Terminal 277.  Note some of the old parts used as patterns on the saw bench to the left.

Welder at Work!

Wayne Baksic shows his dedication and work ethic by volunteering and making the long drive from Wisconsin for the second time in 4 days - in poor winter weather.  Thanks Wayne!  Here we see him welding steel parts and angle to devise a permanent guard cage for the Fay Molder.

Window Molding Strips

Ed Chase is working on fitting the small quarter round strips (which we made) to retain the glass on a new set of windows for the IC 9792 caboose.  Note the stack of completed windows on the press behind him.

L 4 Door

Henry Vincent takes advantage of the nice weather INSIDE the shop to continue the work on a new door for the Milwaukee Electric L 4 locomotive.

Fay Molder

Wayne Baksic made a special trip down from Wisconsin on a Wednesday to deliver material and start the steel fabrication of the permanent guard for the Fay molder.

Cutting notches

Ed Chase pitches in cutting one inch angle to length and then crafting notches to fit together a very professional looking (we hope) guard cage, one that will match the materials and design of those cages we have left from the TM.

Apologies for no pics today but I thought I would at least jot down a few notes.  Yes it was bad weather and by 4 PM most volunteers had already left. 

We completed routing decorative details and gluing up the Pullman passenger ladder.  We trimmed all eight IC caboose windows for the bottom rail bevel, and embossed numbers in all the frames.  We began production of three new windows for B&M 1094 by jointing, ripping and planing the dozen pieces required.  Gerry Dettloff was working on the LSE 810, Pete Galayda fussing with air tank piping for the CCW 300, Henry Vincent glazing the replacement door for the L4, and Victor Humphries painting more siding for URTX 26640, and with help stashing another 20 completed boards in a storage car for winter.

And oh yes, there were four guys out working on the UP 25680 caboose!
