Friday, August 15. 2014Upgrading the RI 2602
The restoration crew from the 2612 has been divided and many of us are now focusing on the interior of the RI 2602. As you know, the interior of the 2602 was in worst shape than the rest of the combined Rock Island fleet. Being left out side all winter aggravated its condition and the coach had a massive paint failure. It was about a month ago that I decided to try and solve that problem. The work started out slowly but quickly increased as the deadline to Thomas soon approached. The call for new volunteers failed but the "Old Reliables" stepped up and are now helping get the job done.
 7-25 Mark vacuuming the floor  7-29 Mary and Loraine needlechipping east side.  7-28 Jim Opolony from steam dept help mask above the windows.  Side above windows is now primed Ready for paint.  I started painting this one side.  Finished painting.  Loraine chipping the last of old paint.  August 6 We had a full crew of Ray, Dave, Mary, and Loraine. Boy do they get the work done No sitting in the air conditioning for them!  August 7 Chase, a new volunteer, welcome to the crew. He did a great job of masking off the last part on this one side. Thanks!  8-9 Mark and Brian workin on it.  8-9 What a nice job they both are doing. |
