Holy Mackerel!! Yes, the Silver Beaver is on the move but has not arrived at Irm, yet! For all of you who say "WHAT is that? Its a Budd stainless fluted baggage car that we have acquired for the museums other "silver train" Yes, it also will fit well with our prized Zephyr. The car was moved from storage and serviced for the move by a railroad service contractor. In-other-words we spent a lot of money to get it road worthy. But its well worth the money! Its going to move on it own wheels! All you rail fans...watch for it!
Here is the problem! The total for all labor and parts used was in excess of $2,700. For instance the "bag" was air tested, cots, had installed all 10 new disc brake pads, installed aluminum on open window and painted grab irons steps and cut levels! Now the coach dept is asking for your help to defray these costs. Having only $900 in its restricted fund you can see our needs. Please donate to the Silver Beaver Fund. And BTW why not send some$ in for our dome, The Silver Pony. We are finalizing some plans for that car as well. Thanks Roger
I was out yesterday and true to form the construction had taken another step forward. The crews had laid out the wall construction from each side and were assembling them. BTY it was hot and very humid. You have to hand it to them. It was the tropics out on the pad. They were literally using a hammer and six inch nails to fasten the 2X4's to the wooden columns. Now your probably asking "Are they going to raise the entire length of 512 all at once?" No! What will happen is that the crews will install a 30 ft section, one at a time, securing[nailing] one to the other as they go.
Do we need another barn built? The answer is a resounding YES! Start sending in your donations for the new barn 15!
Remember to mark it Barn 15! A new fund has been created!
