Another Lackawanna report

This past week a large group of volunteers continued working on the Erie Lackawanna coach, 556. We are now focusing our attention on the exterior with work being preformed on the trucks and the roof.

Mark Rickert is priming one truck on the 556

Jeff is finishing the needle chipping on the second truck WOW sure will looked much better when its completely painted in gloss black

July 6 and 7 were the two days devoted to this painting job. Here Sandy is priming the truck that Jeff has just finished needle chipping.

Jeff is touching up some spots on the first truck. He missed some spots earlier. This is the same truck that Mark primed in the morning.

We are putting the finishing touches on our Thomas and Percy train for this years Day Out With Thomas event, Please consider coming out to help. We still need to paint two coach floors and clean all 12 coaches. Work continues on upgrading the coach fleet

Here's a new and positive development being announced! We now have added a second work session for our volunteers on weekdays! Thursdays have now been added to our summer work schedule to further our production on our coach fleet. So if you can't make Wednesday volunteering in the coach dept please consider the new day of Thursday. The most important part is that we are still having fun and will be accomplishing twice as much. Boy, the improved interiors sure make a difference. That is what we in the coach dept are aiming for to enhance our visitor experience at Irm. Here are some pictures of our latest efforts this last week of June 2016.

Austin began needle chipping the old paint from one Lackawanna truck.

Howard is continuing the job of buffing the paint on the 556s exterior. You wont recognize the coach when he is done!

Jeff is attacking the battery box. We are going to repaint it to the correct Pullman green shade when he is done.

The Dover bedroom project also at the same time.

Dale is priming one wall in Bedroom B.

More upgrades on the Rock Island fleet.

Dan wire wheeled both decks on our newest RI coach 2612. Mary prime both on Thursday

Jeff is busy grindin off old paint on the ceiling of RI 2602. This is the last ceiling to be repainted. What a difference this will make!

Dale is grinding the old rust and paint off the deck on the 2612. Please checkout his work. The 2612 is now on the weekend train

WOW We dont let any grass grow underneath our feet!! The next day, Scott and Sandy were priming part of the ceiling.

Adding an additional volunteer work day certainly helps improve the appearance of our passenger coach fleet. Want to join us and can't make out on Wednesdays? How about a Thursday? Paul and I will be there to help get you started. Thanks Roger
