Pete Galayda continues his fine work on the Charles City Western steeple cab electric locomotive, and has forwarded a few photos. Every week throughout the recent winter and cold months he, and helpers, have been at work in our heated shops, or as conditions allow, out on the locomotive itself.
This is the last piece of angle iron framing which is used as a cap strip on the wood decking at each end of the locomotive.
A milestone has been reached. Here is the completed decking on the west end of the locomotive, complete with the steel cage for resistance grids in place. WOW!! A lot of work and an impressive accomplishment.
Here is an image captured by Roger Kramer, taken on a near perfect day for photos, good sun, great sky. This was certainly not the case yesterday with driving wind, sleet and SNOW!!
Phil Stepek is leading this project, one that has seen a dome car added to our collection. A dome car has been a decades old goal for IRM, and one that many had given up hope of achieving. In the above image you can see where replacement of window glass is in the the works. Funds are needed to replace broken or missing windows and this is not an inexpensive proposition, aside from the actual work involved. And the car is not yet in place on its trucks, moving and other acquisition costs not yet satisfied. So please help with your donations, large or small.
