Tim Peters spent a rare Sunday in the woodshop working on the new windows for CRT 1268. The first four upper sash were bing tweaked and fit, and should be ready for gluing this week.
I worked on making a new mahogany window for the Sand Springs 68. On the left is one of the original sash - well, original in that it was made in Oklahoma on the SSRy; and on the right are the kit parts for the new window. When the 68 was operating in service in September one of the visitors decided to open this window against our advice, and succeeded in tearing it apart.
With help from volunteer Ray Pollice, we also made almost 100 feet of 5/16 inch radius mahogany quarter round for use by the coach department. This is a size and type of wood trim not commercially avaiable so we make our own!
Jeff Brady was on hand to begin to replicate some of the roof supports (carlines) on the end of the 28. These are complex in shape, mounting, and function, and if you look closely there is not a lot of them left, especially on the ends.
