Thursday, January 18. 2018Active work force in Barn 4 annex
Another cold week here at Irm but that does stop the progress of building and repairing pieces for the historic equipment and facilities. I didn't cover everything in the car shop but got some of the highlights. Take a look!
 Randy Hicks, from the Hicks Blog, is priming the entrance door to the 36  These are the stairs to the C A and E 451. Paint is being applied so that they can be installed.  This also belongs to the 451. Its the front pilot to the 451 Once both the stairs and pilot are installed the 451 might be used in limited operation.  This is a window that I just painted . Its from the Mount Harvard and should be installed this Spring.  Part of the coach department work area.  Tim must be having a real good day He smiled for the camera  Jack worked on the GBW 109 even without heat. We do have many, many dedicated volunteers willing to work on their project even in the cold weather.  On Saturday Charlie and his Dad, Paul, stopped by in the afternoon and worked on a few windows from Jacks project, the 109. Monday, January 8. 2018Cold Weekend , Warm Barn 4 Annex
The first Saturday of 2018 brought out the usual hard working members using the heated barn four annex. Activities ranged from painting windows frames, chemical painting stripping, electrical paint stripping, using the table saw, sandblasting of parts, renewing wood with epoxy,inspecting our new planner, and polishing brass parts. I probably missed a few but surprisingly there were a lot of volunteers working various projects.
 Buzz is working on our new large planner for the wood shop. Earlier this last week Tim repainted the entire unit in the shop. We purchased it used this last fall.  A before and after picture. Here Jack Biesterfeld and myself are exhibiting the first restored window from the GBW 109 wood coach. There are only 45 more to restore. Want to help? Come out any Wednesday and we will glady get you started. There will be a detailed article in an upcoming Rail and Wire. Watch for it!  I have been working on repainting a couple of wooden window frames from the Mount Harvards hallway. Now Im watching the paint dry!  Tim has been working on his favorite project, the 1754. This last week he reproduced enough roof boards to replace the old ones. Assisting Tim today were Bill Wulfert and Keith Letsche.  Randy Hicks creating a temporary wood blank so that he can remove an end door from the C A E 36 and repaint it.  Jon Fenlaciki and Mike Stauber are removing an old coat of paint from the roof boards of the Indiana 65. While removing the paint Jon discovered a huge area of wood decay on the board. Next photo shows the repair being made.  Buzz is now preparing some wood inserts in be installed into a long roof board that John and Mike were paint stripping in the previous photo Wednesday, January 3. 2018Last Weekend of Happy Holiday Rail Festivities 2017
Here are just a few scenes from the last weekend of our festive 2017 Happy Holiday Railway. It sure was a very successful event. Next year will, hopefully, bring an even larger train consist with even more holiday decorations!
