Here is our finished recreation of IC 3345! We have yet to apply the lettering but that will be accomplished as soon as time permits. I hope you think our efforts are well worth it! We do. As I have previously mentioned we hope to repaint another passenger car next year. As for now our painting volunteers are going to take a winter vacation and start the next paining project in Spring of 2018. This does not mean we are stopping our progress. On the contrary, we will just focus on other projects. Please watch for the future announcements. In the mean time please send any suggestions that you have to this blog address.

After moving the 3345 back into the barn Howard started spraying the other side.

September 22 Howard has just finished spraying the IC orange on the second side.

Yet to be completed is the painting of the vestibules. Yes, our next big job is the stencil lettering and numbers. Estimated cost is $437.00. We have placed an order for them and should be arriving in the next two weeks. I would like to thank all of you who have sent in donations for the IC 3345. It shows our hard working volunteers that our efforts are indeed appreciated and that, you, indeed like what we are doing in the coach department. We will, very sincerely, try to excede your expectations by improving the appearance of our passenger car collection. Please consider sending donations to your favorite piece. Bus Day Tentative Schedule

We are scheduled to run 6 trolley coaches and 2 motor buses on Saturday for Bus Day. Depending on mechanical condition and operator availability, here is what we envision. We will start with Chicago Marmon-Herrington 9553 at 10:00am. It will be joined by Seattle Gillig 4123 at 11:00. Both will run until 11:45. At that time 9553 will be parked. At 12:00, Milwaukee Marmon-Herrington 441 joins 4123. At 12:45, 4123 is parked and at 1:00 Seattle M-A-N 4020 joins 441. At 1:45, 441 is parked and at 2:00 Dayton Flyer 925 joins 4020. At 2:45, 4020 is parked and at 3:00 Seattle Twin 633 joins 925. Finally at 4:00, 9553 goes solo again until 5:00pm. Throughout the day motor buses CMC GMC 605 and Janesville RTS 412 will supplement trolley bus service but will not run on a specific schedule (again subject to condition). The Bus Stop Shop will be open for business again this year, selling surplus items from the Museum's collection to raise funds for a new bus garage. We appreciate the tremendous support and feedback we received after last year's inaugural event. We hope this year will be even better!!!

The Applying Final Black on the Roof

We have been very busy this early fall. All the volunteers that work in barn 10 have been recruited into the fall the painting crew. As you now know various painting projects have taken priority this year. We are trying to get all these projects completed before winter starts. By now you have seen my blog progress on the IC 3345. That is not the only department car being reworked. We have also been slowly restoring and repainting the roof of the, John Mcloughlin, our 8-1-2 Pullman sleeper. The painting of black is the culmination of our hard efforts. Please take a look! It might not look like much but some of our volunteers have spent over 8 months working for this moment. In addition, Howard Gierer and crew have repainted five roofs on our Rock Island fleet.

The roof is primed with the first coat of primer

After applying the second coat of primer Howard now is spraying the first coat of black to the hips of the roof.

Howard is now applying the second coat. This happens to be September 13.

On September 15th Howard was again at the museum painting the other end of the roof on the sleeper.

Howard, the paint master, continues coating the roof.

Matt Holtz began applying a coat of Sherwin Williams black urethane on th flat part of the roof while Howard was painting on the 3345.

It was a very hot Wednesday but Matt coated the entire roof.
